LA PURA

2025

This reinterpretation of the iconic prehistoric figure introduces a gesture steeped in humor and popular culture: a chancleta (a domestic sandal, symbol of maternal authority in Latin America) held in one of its hands. The title, La Pura, refers to the colloquial Cuban term for mother, evoking a strong, stern, and uncompromising figure. The work reclaims an ancestral fertility canon and reshapes it into a new archetype: that of the powerful, disciplinary mother deeply embedded in popular identity.
